What to do with those 82s?
What's a guy to do with all of those 82s? I'm not going to put each 1982 penny on a scale to see if its copper or not. I wish I could rent a penny sorting machine for an hour or so and go through them. Once I had them rolled, I could prove they were copper by putting a roll or better yet, a $25.00 box on the scale.

if you have quite a bit then if you have a normal coin sorter you could split your horde in two and compare weights of halves then split the halves in half and continue to sort for heaviest halves

Re: What to do with those 82s?
To me, the sound test is infallable. The noise made by dropping a copper cent onto a hard surface is an unmistakable high-pitched ringing sound. The zinc pennies produce a flat sound in comparison.
I would be willing to bet that my "ear" method is accurate over 99% of the time. |

I think I posted this last year sometime...but my grandkids weighed a bunch of them individually and in our geo area 80-plus percent were copper.
